OCES News

Good evening, OCES families,

As the events of today continue to sink in for our school community, I want to share my personal thanks to our staff and students for their bravery and composure during such a difficult moment. While ultimately all students and staff were safe as a result of today’s school safety incident, I understand that engaging in a lockdown outside of a drill can create some big feelings within our students.

In light of that, tomorrow – or when we return in person depending on the outcome of today’s weather system – school counselors and administrators will be meeting with students to acknowledge the brave response of students and staff, reassure students of their safety, and open up a dialogue. Additional counselors will be available to provide additional supports as needed. If you feel your student needs any additional support in the coming days, please reach out to us by calling 410-632-5370.

If weather prevents us from attending in person tomorrow, we will have counseling supports available within the Schoology platform. A course will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. for this purpose. You can access the directions on how to reach these supports by clicking here.

Again, I want to express both my thanks and my immense pride in our students and staff today as they followed our safety protocols. While we hope that situations like this never touch our school community, I am grateful to know that our staff, students, and our law enforcement and emergency responders are ready to respond.

Thank you for your support throughout today’s events, and as always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact our school at 410-632-5370.

Principal, Ocean City Elementary School
