Worcester Technical High School is cooking up success with two of its own earning top statewide recognition. Culinary Arts instructor Phillip Cropper has been named Maryland ProStart Teacher of the Year, while student apprentice Nick Zlotorzynski has been honored as Maryland ProStart Student of the Year. These prestigious awards highlight the exceptional talent and dedication within Worcester County Public Schools' culinary program.

Mr. Cropper’s leadership and passion for culinary education have made an indelible impact on his students, school, and community. As Maryland ProStart Teacher of the Year, he will now be considered for the National Educator of Excellence Award by the National Restaurant Association—a testament to his unwavering commitment to fostering the next generation of culinary professionals.

Meanwhile, Nick Zlotorzynski has showcased remarkable skill and dedication as a student apprentice in Worcester Tech’s culinary program and through his work at The Pines Cafe. His recognition as Maryland ProStart Student of the Year underscores his contributions to the program and his bright future in the industry.

Both Mr. Cropper and Mr. Zlotorzynski will be formally celebrated at the Restaurant Association of Maryland's annual gala on March 2nd, where their achievements will take center stage.

The ProStart program, managed by the Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation, is a two-year high school curriculum designed to merge classroom learning with real-world industry experience. Currently, over 4,000 students across nearly 80 Maryland high schools benefit from this program, which equips them with essential culinary and management skills for success in the foodservice industry.
