Nonprofit donates Musical Instruments to WCPS

Newark, MD, Sept. 30. 2024 – Worcester County Public Schools is thrilled to accept a generous donation of musical instruments from Hungry for Music, a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young musicians through access to quality instruments. This donation will provide students at high-poverty elementary schools with the tools they need to explore their musical talents and deepen their engagement in the arts.

The gift includes snare drums, percussion kits, tambourines, xylophones, music stands and keyboards, which will be distributed to Pocomoke Elementary School (PES) and Buckingham Elementary School (BES), ensuring students who may not otherwise have access to an instrument can participate in music education programs.

"We are incredibly grateful to Hungry for Music for their support of our students and music programs," said Coordinator of Fine and Performing Arts Tamara Mills. "These instruments are more than just tools; they represent opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and express themselves creatively. This donation will make a lasting impact on the lives of many children, and we are excited to see how they will flourish with these new resources."

Hungry for Music is known for its mission of bridging the gap between young musicians and the instruments they need. Over the years, the organization has distributed thousands of instruments to students in underserved communities, helping them discover the joy and confidence that comes from playing music. The organization’s founder, Jeff Campbell, shared his enthusiasm for supporting Worcester County Public Schools: "Our mission is to ensure that every child has the opportunity to experience the joy of making music. We are proud to partner with Pocomoke and Buckingham Elementary Schools and look forward to seeing the amazing music that will come from this donation."

The donation aligns with Worcester County Public Schools’ ongoing efforts to promote arts education as a core part of the curriculum, recognizing its value in fostering creativity, discipline, and teamwork among students.
