Newark, MD, March 11, 2024 – Di Angelo Publications announces the forthcoming book Keep Our Beaches Clean: What If Everybody Did That? – a collaborative effort by Mackenzie Keyser’s passionate Showell Elementary second graders and professional surfer Kelly Slater. This collaborative book underscores the significance of preserving our beaches and oceans. Keep Our Beaches Clean: What If Everybody Did That? aims to inspire readers of all ages to take proactive steps in safeguarding the precious coastal ecosystems we call home. A portion of the profits from this title benefit the Kelly Slater Foundation.
Authored by Makenzie Keyser’s enthusiastic second-grade class and enriched by the insights and expertise of Kelly Slater, the book serves as a compelling testament to the power of collaboration between young minds and industry professionals. The pages come alive with vibrant illustrations and heartfelt messages, encapsulating the essence of responsible beach and ocean stewardship.
Kelly Slater, renowned for his accomplishments in professional surfing, explained that “Mackenzie told me that her students wrote and illustrated a book; they had all done one page each. The book is to tell their version of the story, and to explain how easily you can help save the animals, the beaches, and the world by cleaning the beaches. It was a cute project for the kids, sure, but it was also incredibly inspiring to see, so I posed the question, “What if we turn it into an actual published book?” Other kids, and even teachers could take it as a challenge in their own class to adopt a local beach and take care of it.”
“Through this project, I saw children take ownership of their work. I saw children eager to go to the beach after school to do their part to help the environment. I saw children who once thought they couldn’t write or draw produce some of their greatest work. I saw children researching the effects trash can have on our ecosystem. I saw their confidence soar. In short, I witnessed learning come alive,” said Mackenzie Keyser.
Keep Our Beaches Clean: What If Everybody Did That? not only educates but also encourages action, providing practical tips and engaging activities that promote eco-friendly habits. This unique project showcases the power of community engagement and highlights the importance of fostering a connection between children and the environment.
