During the Berlin Intermediate School Afterschool Academy, BIS and Beyond, students had the opportunity to invite their parents in to assist with the’ Amazing Murals Program’ during their Lights On Afterschool Week. Lights On Afterschool is a national movement that encourages schools to showcase the wonderful ways that afterschool programming is benefiting our students academically, socially, and artistically.

The ‘Amazing Murals Program’ is an afterschool group, led by Mr. Bob Hulburd and Ms. Wendy Nash, which has created a themed mural in the school, complete with native aquatic wildlife and local landmarks, highlighting environmental aspects of our community. Students integrate science and the visual arts, to create a lasting legacy on the walls of their school.

Berlin Intermediate’s afterschool programs are funded from local operating funds. You can support local afterschool programs like this through volunteerism, advocacy and in-kind donations. For more information about or to offer support for WCPS afterschool programs, contact Tamara Mills at tjmills@worcesterk12.org.

Beyond the Bell: Afterschool Success Stories is a weekly web featurette showcasing the opportunities offered to students through afterschool programs across the county. Beyond the Bell is published every Tuesday.
