Second and third grade students at Snow Hill Elementary School C.A.R.E. Afterschool Academy got the opportunity to sharpen their photography skills by participating in the Media Expo Afterschool Club. With iPads, students took photos inside and outside of the school. They learned how to crop photos, use editing tools and ‘ham’ it up a bit with Photo Booth applications. Eleven students submitted their best photographs to the Worcester County Media Expo and came away with seventeen medals!

Integrating STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) into afterschool programs is integral to the success of our program. Our CARE program aims to help attract underrepresented populations to the STEM fields of interest. The students love working with technology, building things, solving problems and being creative.

SHES’s afterschool CARE program is funded through 21stCentury Community Learning Centers grants. You can support local afterschool programs like this through volunteerism, advocacy and in-kind donations. For more information about or to offer support for WCPS afterschool programs, contact Tamara Mills at tjmills@worcesterk12.org.
