Beyond the Bell: After-School Program Builds Confident Learners

At Ocean City Elementary School, the afterschool program has a heavy focus on homework completion.  This Tuesday/Thursday program, invites students in grades 2-4, allowing teachers to work in small groups with children.  This small group instruction and one-on-one approach, builds confidence in student learning. This confidence is translating to the regular school day, where the afterschool students are feeling more comfortable participating in front of their peers, feeling positive about their homework completion and seeing increased academic success in the classroom. Additionally, OCES Homework Academy has increased several students’ regular school day attendance rates. It is vital for students be present at school, and with the help of the after school program, students are present, engaged, and soaring.
