WCPS Launches Redesigned Mobile App

WCPS Launches Redesigned Mobile App
Posted on 02/20/2018

Newark, MD, February 20, 2018– Worcester County Public Schools is proud to announce the next step in improving communications with stakeholders with the launch of a fully redesigned mobile app today.

The mobile app is designed to enable parents, staff, students and the broader community to stay informed and up-to-date on important issues, information and activities underway within the school community. The free app can be downloaded for Apple iOS (https://tinyurl.com/WCPSMobileAppIOS) and Android (https://tinyurl.com/WCPSMobileAppAndroid), or by searching Worcester County PS in your app store. Current app users will see a comprehensive update to the app available beginning today.

Developed in partnership with West Corporation, the trusted provider of SchoolMessenger Solutions for education, the newly redesigned app will provide families with 24/7/365 access to calendars, lunch menus, events, sports schedules and more. The app also provides community members wishing to receive WCPS closing and delay information with a notification option to receive the alerts in real time.

Additionally, the redesigned app has been built with the future in mind, as the app’s infrastructure will allow for future improvements including the ability for teachers to send messaging directly to parents, the potential integration of the school attendance platform, the ability to update your notification settings for SchoolMessenger, and much more.

“Our newly redesigned mobile app empowers everyone in the community to stay connected and up-to-date on the information that they want and need directly from their mobile device,” said Coordinator of Public Relations and Special Programs Carrie Sterrs. “It’s another great example of our commitment to communication, as we know that in order for families to get involved in school activities and functions they must first be informed of them. We are excited about how our app will help us communicate more effectively, and hope it leads to a stronger, more connected school system community overall.”

Highly secure and flexible, the school system’s app is built on a communication platform that permits the district to manage and share content easily. Key features include:

  • Meal menus
  • Sports scores and schedules
  • Detailed school information
  • Event calendars
  • Secure access to online systems (e.g. PowerSchool Parent Portal, MySchoolBucks)

“The second goal in our new strategic plan, Forward View 2022, is centered completely around communication and collaboration,” Superintendent of Schools Lou Taylor said. “We continue to make large strides in this area, with last year’s launch of the new website and now with our improved mobile app. I am very proud that our team is as committed to effective communication as I am.”

With budget limitations a reality for schools throughout the nation, West was able to partner with the district to deliver this upgraded communication channel at no additional cost.

“We look forward to continuing to work with Worcester County Public Schools to help reach its goals for effective and accessible communications throughout the entire school community,” said Nate Brogan, senior vice president of West’s Education group. “Parents today are busier than ever and rely on their mobile devices to connect them to the information that matters most. Our SchoolMessenger Solutions allow schools and community members to stay connected through a robust mobile platform that will continue to evolve based on their needs.”
