Third grade students recently donated handmade blankets to Diakonia to complete their unit of study, “Making Moments Matter”. Students began the unit by learning about realistic fiction, narrative writing and multiplication.

They read realistic fiction stories with a theme of kindness, and then wrote personal narratives about a time when they experienced kindness. They researched charities that they could donate to and one of the charities they picked was Diakonia in Ocean City, Maryland. The students then worked together to make blankets using their math skills. Claudia Nagel, the director of Diakonia, accepted the blankets and spoke to the students via You Tube at the school’s award assembly.

The students were proud to use their knowledge to spread kindness and make moments matter!
