MABE to Seek Input from the Public in Superintendent Search
Posted on 06/22/2016

Newark, MD, June 21, 2016– The search for a new Worcester County Superintendent of Schools was officially launched at the Board of Education’s May 17, meeting.  The Board of Education contracted with the Maryland Association of Boards of Education (MABE), which will manage the process and conduct the search for qualified candidates.  In February, Superintendent Dr. Jerry Wilson announced he would not seek reappointment to another four-year term as superintendent. At the same meeting, the Board of Education announced that Dr. Wilson would remain in the leadership position through June 30, 2017, while the search was being conducted.

An integral part of MABE’s process is to seek public input on the leadership characteristics needed for qualified candidates.  Input will assist MABE in developing a leadership profile, helping the organization match potential candidates with the leadership expectations of school system staff and Worcester County community members.

Input forums have been scheduled for school system employees and for the community.  These forums will be facilitated by representatives from MABE.  The dates, times, and locations of these forums are indicated below:

Thursday, June 30, 2016

  • 6:30 p.m. – Pocomoke High School
  • 6:30 p.m. – Berlin Intermediate School

Wednesday, July 6, 2016

  • 6:30 p.m. – Snow Hill High School

During these forums, participants will be asked to discuss and provide three to five responses to the following questions:

  1. What things make Worcester County a very special place to work, live and learn?
  2. What characteristics would you like to see in a new Superintendent?
  3. What are some challenges a new Superintendent will face in upcoming years?

Individuals or groups that cannot participate in the forums are encouraged to submit their input through one of two means: an online survey which can be accessed at the district’s website,, between Friday, June 24 and Wednesday, July 6, or individuals may mail their responses to arrive no later than Wednesday, July 6, 2016, to:
