Newark, MD, June 21, 2016– At the June 21, Worcester County Board of Education meeting, three administrative appointments were announced and approved. The new assignments are effective July 1, 2016.

Amy Vadella has been named to succeed Sharon Smith as the Extended School Program Administrator at Berlin Intermediate School. Vadella began her career in education with Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) in 2002. She has most recently served the school system as a Curriculum Resource Teacher at Pocomoke High School.

Joining WCPS for the first time are Odtis Collins and Dr. John DiPaula who will fill the positions Coordinator of Food Service and Supervisor of Human Resources respectively.

Collins will succeed Scott Blackburn as he takes the helm of the Food Service program for WCPS. With 25 years of experience in the food service industry, Collins holds a chef certification from the Culinary School of Washington, D.C., and a bachelor of science in hotel and restaurant management from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Collins will depart from Atria Corporation, where he has served in various roles since 1999, most recently as Divisional Director of Culinary Services.

Succeeding Velda Henry as Supervisor of Human Resources is John DiPaula, who joins WCPS from Howard County Public Schools. Holding a doctoral degree in philosophy, counselor education and supervision from University of Maryland College Park, DiPaula was most recently principal at Burleigh Manor Middle School. Prior to his principalship, DiPaula spearheaded recruitment for the county, which resulted in greater diversity among hires."

Each one of these roles is an integral part of our school system,” said Superintendent Dr. Jerry Wilson. “I congratulate Ms. Vadella on her promotion, and I am very happy to welcome Mr. Collins and Dr. DiPaula to Worcester County. I know that each of these professionals will bring expertise, creativity and innovation to their new roles.
